Editor's note (May 19, 2020): Walmart announced that it will be discontinuing Jet.com and channeling its efforts into the Walmart.com brand. Jet sellers and customers are reportedly being sent to the Walmart Marketplace. Jet's Unified Product Catalog
In an effort to ensure a clean shopping experience, Jet.com's catalog is tightly controlled and designed to only have one master listing for a given unique product. This is different than Amazon's ASIN (Amazon Standard Item Number) system which frequently fragments producing duplicate, editable listings with incorrect data, and eBay's listing system which produces unique listings provided and controlled by individual sellers resulting in many listings for the same underlying product.
Listings on Jet.com are maintained by Jet. If a product does not yet exist on Jet.com, the retailer that submits a unique product identifier along with required attributes initiates a review process by the category team for that product.
In order to provide a streamlined experience for Jet Members, Jet presents only one listing per product. That listing detail is maintained by Jet. When a member searches for a product on Jet and views a listing, there is no associated retailer indicated on that listing. The retailer that will fulfill the order (or part of the order), based on the optimal economics for the member's transaction, will only be confirmed once the member is finished shopping. Only upon checkout will the member be shown the retailer(s) selected to fulfill the order because the retailer(s) will only be determined once the shopper’s basket is complete.
By holding and maintaining only one listing/product description per unique item, Jet will maintain a clean and streamlined shopping experience for Jet Members.
Jet's Taxonomy
Categorization on Jet.com is based on Browse Node IDs. These are akin to Amazon Product Classifiersand eBay Category IDs. Here is the latest Jet Browse Node ID file as of 10/2015.
